FLOC Families,

This time of year always makes us reflect on what we are thankful for, and here at FLOC, we are thankful for YOU! Getting to see your students each week and watch as they learn and grow into amazing human beings is one of the best things you can experience. Thank you for being a part of our FLOC family, and for trusting us with your incredible kids!

NTP update

This was a big month for FLOC with our Annual Book Festival taking place on November 12th and 13th. First, our Virtual Book Festival went live on Friday and then we had our in-person book pickup on Saturday. Students got to pick up their 10 books, receive a copy of our bonus featured book Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic signed by the Mother of Black Girl Magic, CaShawn Thompson, AND get a beautiful (and delicious) custom cookie decorated by Shena Jefferson, owner of Jefferson Bakes. It was so great seeing all of our students back at the office and celebrating their love of reading with us. We hope your students had as much fun as we did!

CLPs Update

Diego has been a part of FLOC programs since he was in the second grade. Even at that young age, he worked hard every day and truly had a passion for learning. We are so excited to announce that all of that hard work finally paid off this year when Diego got accepted into his chosen high school! His grades were so good, he didn’t even need to take the placement test. His mom told us that when they got the acceptance letter, she knew that FLOC had impacted Diego’s life forever. We are so proud of you Diego, and can’t wait to see all the things you accomplish!

November Fireside chat

Watch as FLOC Executive Director Brandelyn Anderson interviews WJLA 7 News Reporter Justin Hinton for FLOC’s third Fireside Chat. Justin has been in the news industry for over a decade, traveling across the world for his work. He has won both a Regional Murrow-Award and an Emmy for his incredible storytelling. Looking Ahead

The Holidays are coming up and we want to know how you will be celebrating! Send us in pictures of your students and what their favorite holiday tradition is and you might be featured on FLOC’s social media!  Photos can be sent to FLOC’s Development Communications Manager, Morgan Roberts at mroberts@floc.org.
