January Family Newsletter

FLOC Families,

Happy New Year! It may only be a few weeks into 2022, but we already have a LOT of exciting things in store…

FLOC's Big Announcement

For months now we’ve been alluding to a top-secret project and we can finally tell you what it is. FLOC has its very first group of published authors!! Over the summer, six CLP middle school students worked hard with our friends at 826 DC to write, We Matter: 6 Students & Their Protest. This book is a collection of stories from the perspective of each student author. These are their feelings, their dreams, and their words. And now…it has finally been published! we are so proud of this group of students, and even more excited to share their work with you!

On January 12th, we got together (safely) with our 6 student authors to show them their book in person for the first time! They walked a red carpet, signed copies of the book, and celebrated this accomplishment with their families. This book stands as a testament to their hard work and dedication and is something that will live on forever. I am so proud of these 6 students for finding their voice and creating something personal and meaningful to them.
