As we enter the last month of the year, let’s take a look back at all we’ve achieved together in 2014. Today, FLOC joins the DC Alliance of Youth Advocates in telling stories of our students’ successes. Some highlights of the year:
Madeleine Fazio serves as a math tutor with the FLOC Neighborhood Tutoring Program. She tutors one student on Thursday nights at FLOC and another on Wednesday afternoons at Tyler Elementary.
On Saturday, November 14th, the holiday season officially kicked off for FLOC students as they were able to take home as many free books as they could carry (with the help of parents and tote bags). FLOC held its 9th Annual Book Festival, which aims to further foster a love of reading by growing our students’ libraries.
This year, FLOC is again offering elective workshop units to our Middle School Scholars Program. These electives are designed to introduce students to a variety of topics in new ways.
This past summer, FLOC and the Neighborhood Tutoring Program were pleased to welcome the mother / son team of Aleas and Alexander Hammett to serve in the Summer Math Academy.

Hey FLOC community! Today, we’re kicking off our summer learning academies with the first day of summer reading tutoring. We’ve learned that summer learning and summer reading are incredibly important for our students, but it’s a great time for adults to do some reading, too.
On Friday May 29th, FLOC held its annual recognition event at the Woman’s National Democratic Club to celebrate all the amazing work our students, families, volunteers, and staff accomplished throughout the year.
