Madeleine Fazio serves as a math tutor with the FLOC Neighborhood Tutoring Program. She tutors one student on Thursday nights at FLOC and another on Wednesday afternoons at Tyler Elementary.
9th Annual Book Festival

On Saturday, November 14th, the holiday season officially kicked off for FLOC students as they were able to take home as many free books as they could carry (with the help of parents and tote bags). FLOC held its 9th Annual Book Festival, which aims to further foster a love of reading by growing our students’ libraries.

Some of you may not know that not only does FLOC have youth afterschool programming in DC, but also in Jefferson County, WV, located just across the Virginia line at the southern tip of the eastern panhandle. FLOC’s Outdoor Education Center staff facilitate a variety of outdoor and team-building programs as well as host the DC and WV youth during their FLOC summer camps.

Mock Trial 2015 @ Willkie Farr & Gallagher

On Monday, October 12th, with a day off school, FLOC Scholars participated in a Mock Trial event at the Wilkie Farr & Gallagher, LLP, law firm. Separated into defense attorneys and persecutors, Scholars had to argue different sides of a case, using only their words, logic, and the limited supply of evidence that was available.

The team at FLOC’s Outdoor Education Center are no strangers to facilitating team building activities for groups of young people and adults. Often these activities are conducted on site at the OEC, but on this particular day, we took the show on the road.
