FLOC is proud to announce the top readers from this year’s annual Read-a-Thon. Eighth-grader Onia came in first by reading over 2,500 minutes! In second place, seventh-grader Valerie read just over 2,000 minutes, and fourth-grader Solomon wasn’t far behind with almost 1,900 minutes. To round out the top 9 we had Nebeyo, Arsema, Edelawit, Josylnn, Ethan, and Kenard. Together, FLOC’s students read over 10,000 minutes in a month! Here are some recaps from our top readers:
Onia, 8th Grade:
“My favorite book that I read was Brazen. I liked it because it talked about bold women who made positive life changes to the world and it inspired me to be more productive whenever I read it. From my books, I learned that it’s possible to write awesome books that’ll end up in libraries.”
Solomon, 4th Grade:
“Nate (from Big Nate) is my favorite character. I enjoy reading about the things he gets into and his crazy ways of dealing with his problems. I learned that sharing is caring from the Nate book and it’s always fun to play games outside with your friends.”
Arsema, 4th Grade:
“My favorite book that I read was Folk Diaries. I really liked the part where her friends were being nice to her like mine are. I learned that if you are a good or bad student you are still amazing and smart.”
We are so proud of our readers and grateful to everyone who participated in and donated to Read-a-Thon this year. Keep reading!
