FLOC Beyond the Classroom Luncheon 2016

For Love of Children is proud to present the video that debuted at our annual Beyond the Classroom Luncheon on May 3rd applauding a FLOC family who has participated in many of FLOC’s programs for over a decade. We are also grateful that so many of our supporters, board members, volunteers, and community partners were there to see the impact that not only FLOC has had on a family, but also the impact that one family can have on a community.

This 10-minute, documentary-style video focuses on “CC,” a DC resident who holds many titles, including single parent, legal guardian, and great aunt of 8 children. In order to manage all of the responsibilities that come with those titles she has relied on both a deep personal strength and unconditional love. In recent years, 5 of CC’s children have been FLOC scholars, with 4 having gone on to college, 1 still in the program, and 2 more who hope to join FLOC soon. The video shows how CC has worked hand-in-hand with FLOC to ensure that each of her children is equipped with the knowledge and the tools to defy the odds and reach beyond the “opportunity gap” while fostering the desire and confidence to be the best they can be and pursue their biggest dreams.
