Summer is coming, and with that comes the summer slide. What is the summer slide, you might ask? It’s the decline of learning that under-resourced students go through over the summer, while their more privileged counterparts have access to intellectually engaging opportunities over the summer. This year, that gap is likely to be even worse due to Covid-19 and the disruption of classroom learning. FLOC is determined to do everything we can to prevent that from happening and get our students back on track.<\/p>\n

Luckily, just 2 hours of learning or reading each week is enough to prevent any learning loss. That is why FLOC’s Summer Learning Program is going virtual. Two hours a week of one-on-one tutoring in math and\/or reading will keep our students on their game and ready for fall!<\/p>\n

To do this, we need your help. Click here<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to learn more about our Virtual Summer Learning Program and find both volunteer and student applications. Volunteers must be 16 or older to apply. Students must be from D.C., and meet the income requirements stated in the application in order to qualify.<\/p>\n
