One that particularly sticks out is Acumen Solutions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4525\" src=\"https:\/\/floc.org\/flocold2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ft_img22.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"388\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/floc.org\/flocold2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ft_img22.jpg 388w, https:\/\/floc.org\/flocold2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/ft_img22-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FLOC was introduced to Acumen Solutions in 2009 when Adam Horvath, a Senior Director, joined our Board of Directors.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/forloveofchildren.wordpress.com\/2012\/10\/11\/2012-acumen-solutions-race-for-a-cause-superheroes-run-for-floc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">For five years<\/a>, FLOC participated in and was a beneficiary of Acumen\u2019s Race for a Cause, raising a total of over $55,000 for FLOC\u2019s Neighborhood Tutoring and Scholars Programs. At\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/forloveofchildren.wordpress.com\/2015\/06\/02\/recognition-event-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this year\u2019s Recognition Event and Empower Awards<\/a>, Acumen Solutions received the Empower Partner award for going above and beyond to support the work we are doing for low-income students in DC. The award was given in recognition of the pro bono support Acumen has provided FLOC while helping our program managers build a Salesforce database to track student data. This upgrade to a central database has increased our ability to track, analyze and report on individual students\u2019 progress as they participate in FLOC programs.<\/p>\n<p>This week, Acumen Solutions has generously donated 23 laptop computers for our Scholars Program. These laptops will help us replace some of our outdated ones, as well as support our students and staff in a variety of ways.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>6<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0\u2013 10<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0graders<\/strong>\u00a0will use the laptops to complete academic assignments during\u00a0<em>Homework Help<\/em>\u00a0as many students do not have computers and\/or internet access at home.<\/li>\n<li><strong>11<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0graders<\/strong>\u00a0will research postsecondary institutions and career opportunities on the new laptops.<\/li>\n<li>Laptops will support our\u00a0<strong>12<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0graders<\/strong>\u00a0in the college application process including college research, resume and personal statement composition, application completion, and financial aid searches.<\/li>\n<li>Our local\u00a0<strong>postsecondary students\u00a0<\/strong>will be able to use laptops to complete assignments, research colleges (if they are transferring) and search for scholarships.<\/li>\n<li>New laptops will be helpful to\u00a0<strong>staff\u00a0<\/strong>when presenting volunteer trainings and workshops.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/floc.org\/flocold2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/mg_9960_edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"247\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4526\" srcset=\"https:\/\/floc.org\/flocold2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/mg_9960_edited.jpg 400w, https:\/\/floc.org\/flocold2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/mg_9960_edited-300x185.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We extend a huge thank you to Acumen Solutions for their work in the community and for supporting FLOC and our students.<\/p>\n<p>(Kate Brown is the Development Associate at FLOC.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are several businesses and partners that FLOC has been lucky enough to partner with for several years.
