Have you heard about College Signing Day, an effort spearheaded by the First Lady\u2019s office\u2019s Reach Higher initiative to celebrate all young people\u2019s college and career futures with as much pomp and circumstance as athlete college signing decisions?<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been going on for a few years now across the country, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/education\/dc-seniors-announce-their-choices-in-first-college-signing-day\/2015\/05\/01\/dacb62e6-f01b-11e4-8666-a1d756d0218e_story.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">including right here in DC through DC Public Schools<\/a>, and this year FLOC is planning a little celebration of our own.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, May 2nd, we\u2019ll invite each of our 12th Grade Scholars (who have been working incredibly hard this year on applications, financial aid research, scholarship essays, tough decisions, and more\u2026 not to mention 12 years of hard work in school and extracurricular activities!) to announce their postsecondary plans for next fall. They\u2019ll make it official in front of their peers, volunteer postsecondary coaches, and a few others in our FLOC community, then we\u2019ll celebrate with some photos, a pizza party, and LOTS of applause.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of our 12th grade Scholars on a college tour last spring:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/floc.org\/flocold2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/2015-04-16-14-13-27.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"478\" height=\"637\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/floc.org\/flocold2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/2015-04-16-14-13-27.jpg 478w, https:\/\/floc.org\/flocold2020\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/2015-04-16-14-13-27-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 478px) 100vw, 478px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are a few ways YOU, as a FLOC friend and supporter, can get involved:<\/p>\n<p>Share messages of congratulations and support (and even selfies in college gear!) for our Scholars. You can comment on this blog post, tag us (and the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23reachhigher&src=typd\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#ReachHigher<\/a> hashtag) in a post on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FLOC_DC\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/floc_dc\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a>, write on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/forloveofchildren\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">our Facebook wall<\/a>, or email something to emetz@floc.org. We\u2019ll print out all notes of congratulations and celebration and share them at our celebration next week.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll be observing an extended week of college awareness at FLOC as part of this celebration, so ALL staff and volunteers are encouraged to wear college gear to program the week of May 2nd \u2013 7th.<\/p>\n<p>For inspiration, take a look at some FLOC staff, volunteers, and
