Karisa Booth was the Lead Site Coordinator for the Summer Reading Program.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Q: Where are you from?<\/p>\n<p>A: Riverside, California<\/p>\n<p>Q: What did you study in school?<\/p>\n<p>A: I just graduated from The George Washington University with a degree in International Development and Geography.<\/p>\n<p>Q: How did you hear about FLOC?<\/p>\n<p>A: The Office of Community Service at GW. I started tutoring in October of 2010 in reading and math. I tutored at four different school sites. I was then asked to apply to be a Summer VISTA, and then they hired me after an interview.<\/p>\n<p>Q: How do you think being a tutor helped prepare you for the internship?<\/p>\n<p>A: I knew a lot about the organization and had hands-on experience. Through tutoring, you learn a lot.<\/p>\n<p>Q: What is your favorite memory from the summer?<\/p>\n<p>A: Watching relationships between tutors and kids grow, and seeing how much it means to the tutors. As a coordinator, I get to watch it every day.<\/p>\n<p>Q: What attracted you to FLOC?<\/p>\n<p>A: I wanted to work with kids, and I liked FLOC\u2019s mission. A few teachers really helped me through school, so it\u2019s nice to give back in that sense.<\/p>\n<p>Q: What are your plans?<\/p>\n<p>A: I\u2019m looking for a full-time job, and maybe get a masters degree in a few years in international development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(We are recognizing FLOC\u2019s interns this summer by publishing blog posts about their experiences.
