DESCRIPTION:Support FLOC's Read-a-Thon\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Studies show that just 15 minutes of reading per day increases student gains in reading achievement and translates into overall academic success\, making students more likely to graduate high school on time and enroll in college. In addition\, under-resourced students who read 15 minutes a day scored better on reading assessments than high socio-economic students who did not. This means\, by reading 15 minutes a day\, under-resourced students can compensate for\, and even overcome\, the challenges of being socially or economically disadvantaged. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n That is why this year for Read-a-Thon\, FLOC is challenging each of our students to read 15 minutes a day during the month of March. We want to help our students build reading habits that will benefit them for life! In addition\, FLOC will be raising $5\,000 over the month of March to go towards providing a digital library system for our students. This will give families easy access to quality reading materials and encourage our students to keep reading long after Read-a-Thon is over.
