By Viraj Gandhi (board member) About 8 years ago, I became a Big Brother to a 7-year-old named Steve — or as he liked to be called, Steve O. Steve’s parents were in the middle of getting a divorce and he had 4 older siblings.

Moving from the global scale to the local, the Outdoor Education Center’s Leaders in Action have had quite the adventure during their last couple of months of the program.

End of the year celebrations highlight the importance of relationship building on children’s progress. Throughout the school year, each week our students gather with their individual ttuors to drive into math and or language curricula with the goal of student achievement

Scholars strudents celebrated their final days of Scholars Program for the 2017-2018 school year!

On may 1st FLOC will host its 12th annual Beyond the Classroom Fundraising Breakfast. This event allows our board members volunteers, supporters, and community partnres to come together to celebrate and hear first-hand stories of how our students have been imacted by our work.

When we see that our students excelling in the classroom, we love to celebrate! Morgan Welch, Bilingual recruitment and outreach coordinator, created a dislpay showcasing students from the Neighborhood Tutoring Program and Scholars Program who received Honor Roll.

For the past four years the OEC’s Leaders in Action after school program has led Global Connections, an 8-week activity highlighting one continent per week.

In the months of February and March, FLOC hosted two events designed to support 12th grade Scholars in applying for scholarships and grants.

What do you get when you mix together eager students, dedicated parents, proud alumni from countless universities and collages and chipottle?

For the third year in a row, the OEC brought the Leaders in Action after school program kids to the Ranson Community Garden to volunteer and learn.
